A Victorian Opal & Diamond ring set five well matched precious opals. All with a good vibrant harlequin play of colour. Play of colour is the optical effect seen in opals where they reflect a range of colours under light. The most desirable Opal displays the full range : yellow-green, orange-red and blue as seen in this ring.
There are 10 x rose cut diamond on either side of the opals that add a little extra sparkle to this ring.
Inside the 18ct gold setting there is an indistinct hallmark (Crown) that dates this piece to around 1880.
Approximate size N 1/2.
Excellent preowned condition.
